Cohesivity vs Convex

Convex: “The reactive backend platform that keeps up with you and your agents.”

Convex has a clear idea about backends: your data, your functions, and the live queries that keep the frontend in sync should be one reactive system in TypeScript. It is a genuinely nice model for apps where the UI has to stay live, and Convex leans into coding agents with a plugin for them. You still sign up and connect a project before any of it runs.

Cohesivity is a different shape. Rather than a reactive TypeScript runtime, it is a set of standard services (Postgres, storage, auth, hosting, AI) that a coding agent provisions over one HTTP API, with no account. The project runs for 72 hours, then you claim it. So the choice is between Convex's opinionated reactive model that you sign into, and a plain, provisioned backend the agent stands up with no signup.

where Cohesivity fits

  • No account before the backend runs. The agent provisions everything, and you claim the project once it works. Convex's plugin still points at a project you signed up and connected.
  • Standard Postgres, not a bespoke runtime. If you would rather build on plain SQL and HTTP than adopt a reactive framework, Cohesivity provisions managed Postgres.
  • More than data and functions. Storage, hosting, auth, an AI gateway and a browser come from the same API, not just the reactive core.

when Convex is the better call

Pick Convex if reactivity is the point. When the whole app is about live, always-in-sync state, its query-and-mutation model removes a lot of the plumbing you would otherwise write by hand.

Pick Convex if you want an opinionated, all-TypeScript backend and you like its shape. For the right app, that consistency is a real productivity win.

The difference is philosophy. Convex is a framework you adopt and sign into. Cohesivity is a set of plain services the agent provisions with no signup. If the reactive model fits your app, Convex is built for it in a way a generic backend is not.

questions

For the case where you want a backend provisioned by an agent with no signup, and you would rather use standard Postgres and HTTP than a reactive TypeScript framework, yes. Convex is an opinionated reactive backend you sign up for; Cohesivity provisions plain services over one API and you claim the project later.
